The photos of Harriston below are by kind permission of Mrs Joyce Hodgson of Wigton. They are taken in and around the pit village of Harriston mostly in the early 1900's. George Marrs Smith was born in 1880 in Harriston. He served his time at Brayton Domian No 5 as a blacksmith eventually becoming site manager before his untimely death in 1942 at the age of 62 whilst dismantling pit head when cable snapped and wrapped round George and flung him onto girders. John Hodgson Smith was Mrs Hodgson's Great Grandfather. Her Father was Jame Berwick Smith Died 1990 who was pit joiner.
